Cosmetic Industry companies are seeing the potential AI has for their beauty products. But it is not just cosmetic companies that are trying to cash in on AI’s abilities. Dermatologists have developed ModiFace Skin AI.
This application allows them to study the skin on live video and see minute changes. This technology also allows them to study what effect make-up and other beauty products have on a person’s skin.
AI beauty innovation
Dermatologists worry about your skin’s health. Cosmetic Industry companies worry about how you will look in their product. That is why the latter companies, like L’Oreal, have developed AI programs like Make Up Genius.
These programs help you see how you would look in certain beauty products before you purchase them. Unfortunately, these programs have some limitations and cannot always depict results for oriental women.
Meitu, on the other hand, has been able to develop a program that demonstrates how a Chinese woman will look in certain make-up styles. This China-based company’s success has spurred other companies to develop virtual reality programs to help their customers make beauty treatments.
Beauty and no beast
The problem for most consumers of cosmetic beauty products is not so much about how they will look. But finding the right one at the right price. My Beauty Matches is an internet company using AI technology to solve this problem.
Their AI application helps consumers look through the approx. 400,000 products offered by about 3,500 beauty companies. Consumers are able to find the right product at the price they can afford. There is no beast in this application except the one working for the consumer.
Not to be left out
A professor, Raymond Fu, uses his company, Giaran, to promote the AI work his Northeastern University lab produces. His work also focuses on letting consumers see what different make-up will look like once they apply it to their faces.
Like My Beauty Matches, his AI applications provide virtual reality tests plus provide objective tips and comments. Shiseido acquired Giaran, which Mr. Fu views as a positive for his company. He gets a bigger platform to market his programs and demonstrate his technology.
AI and Cosmetics
While many people are focused on AI’s potential for military, defense, banking and other important issues. There are others who see a more practical side to AI’s ability. They know that cosmetics is a big seller.
This is so in spite of the guessing game women must do when they buy different beauty products. What these companies are doing is taking the guess out of the game. The use AI technology to help their customers see themselves first before they spend any money.
What is good for the customer is good for the company. The easier it is for women to purchase the product, the more money the company will make. AI technology is being used to help women look better when they use cosmetics and other beauty products.
