What is the hype about?
Airspace systems just introduced what it calls the world’s first complete drone security system. It is the only drone system that is capable of detecting, tracking and retrieving rogue drones all at the tap of a finger. Indeed, the first autonomous flight system to do that, Airspace systems could redefine the future of unmanned flight systems.
The ‘interceptor’ drone is much faster than a regular drone and also has a combination of many of the latest sensor technologies, making it an all-around security solution on its own. The silicon-valley company hopes to bring down dangerous drones that been a concern for many stadiums and factories alike.
How does it work?
Rather than jamming the signal which would be the most obvious approach, Airspace systems have a more interesting method where another drone which it claims to be 2-3 times faster than regular drones will catch and retrieve rogue drones.
Airspace Systems have also built something called Kinetic Capture technologies. As of now, these technologies consist of a ground-based system that recognizes an offending unmanned aircraft. Further, it launches its own drone to chase it down, fire a tethered net at it and carry it away. This is better in a way because rather than drones falling down and causing collateral damage, they are carried away by netting them. Also, one would rather watch a killer drone cinematically capture a dangerous drone than have drones fall out of the sky due to signal jamming.
By turning a property into a scalable 3D map, the drone uses machine learning to enforce a security blueprint. What it means is that you are showing the drone around the house and it will take care that you won’t have any uninvited guests.
Airspace systems say that ‘drones have turned security systems over its head’. It holds perfectly true to the present day as drones are capable of reaching places people cannot and hence, locks, fences and manpower are not enough to keep an area completely secure. Drones have become more common these days and newer breakthroughs have made them more cheap and rich in features. And over the years, there have been many cases of drones have been responsible for causing havoc in stadiums, stealing sensitive information and disrupting production.
The recent increase in the number of drone-related crimes has led to many government bodies initiating action against unmanned vehicles. Law and order have always been slow to catch up with advancing technologies and this has called the need for countermeasures and security updates. Market competition has also lead to Sensitive information and trade secrets being stolen by competitors and trespassers.
The company claims to build fully automated aircraft which is capable of monitoring and tracking drones on their own. Airspace Systems has come up with a technology that is the need of the market and managed to raise over 25 million dollars up to date. It’s rise to fame has also shown how large the market for such technology actually is.
