PhD in Artificial Intelligence Chamber’s views on the utilization of AI for the nation’s progress
The Ph.D. chamber had organized a panel discussion recently. The discussions of the panel centered around how the country should focus on the creation of Artificial Intelligence within itself. It is hoped that the indigenously made AI will lead to the transformation of the country.
India’s hopes for AI
Almost ten percent of those companies in the world that use Artificial Intelligence is based in India. The panel considers this to be a notable achievement for the country. They feel that the nation should use this advantage for its benefit. The growth curve of Artificial Intelligence can be used to help the poor and the people living in the villages. The progress of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things offers several great opportunities in important sectors like agriculture and healthcare. In healthcare, it can help to streamline the procedures. In agriculture, AI can increase the earnings of the farmers and also increase the productivity of the fields. AI can also prove to be fruitful in education, Small and Medium Enterprises, Public Service Delivery and Defense sector. The need of the hour is to use AI to its full potential.
The fears acting against AI
There are several fears in the minds of people that act against the complete implementation of AI. The first of these fears is that the implementation of AI will lead to loss of jobs as a major portion of the jobs will become mechanized. The result of the loss of jobs is social anarchy which will start spreading. The panel believes that the country should leave these unfounded fears aside and look at the positive side of things. Use of Artificial Intelligence can lead to improvements in productivity. The work will be done more efficiently than ever, and the result will be the creation of products that are cost-effective. This will be especially beneficial for those products that are created by Small and Medium Enterprises and the kind of new-age job profiles and skill sets.
The way forward for the nation in terms of AI
There are several things that India needs to do to use AI to its full potential. The first of these many steps is re-skilling with a proper plan in mind. There needs to be an incubation of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things for the start-up businesses in the social sector. The new Skill India scheme is a step in that direction with future-ready courses that place emphasis on the operations of AI. The courses in the top universities of the nation need to be redesigned as well. There needs to be an emphasis on the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or in other words, STEM education. This education is present in all the universities, but there is a lack of focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence. India has everything in place to use AI to gain its complete advantage. The country just needs to work on the benefits it already has to harness the advantages of AI.
